A CALL has gone out for volunteers to help clean up the Limehouse Cut area. Green charity Thames21 has organised a big clean up on Saturday to clear some of the litter which can be harmful to wildlife.

It will be removing rubbish from Limehouse Cut and Limekiln Dock and has joined forces with estate agent London Link Properties for the big clear up.

Waterway areas in east London accumulate a variety of plastic bags, shopping trolleys, tyres and all manner of other items that affect local wildlife and could end up in the wider marine environment.

Volunteers should wear old clothes, will be given all equipment, including boots and gloves, along with supervision and support during the clean-up.

Food and refreshments will be provided. Places are limited and you must register in advance with lesleyb@londonlink.co.uk. Under 16s have to be accompanied by an adult.

The event runs from 10am to 2.30pm, followed by a barbecue at Gordon Ramsay’s gastropub the Narrow afterwards.
