EAST London based charity Muslim Aid launched its Ramadan fund-raising appeal This year's "What will you give this Ramadan" campaign will focus on a number of key programmes ranging from 'feed the fasting', to healthcare, education and childcare support.

Last year the charity raised 3.2 million during the month-long Ramadan fast and hopes to exceed that target this year to find its projects in 57 countries.

The chairman of Muslim Aid, Sir Iqbal Sacranie said: "We have set a higher target this year and Insh'Allah hope to raise up to 4 million from our generous donor community. Now, more than ever, is the time to keep in our hearts and minds the 1.02 billion people in the world who are without food and proper nutrition. This Ramadan we have an additional responsibility for the displaced community in Pakistan to provide emergency relief from food, water, medicines and shelter."

Poplar and Limehouse Labour MP Jim Fitzpatrick joined the launch of the charity's appeal at its base in Whitechapel Road.
