THE East London Line is up for a prestigious engineering award.
The new Overground link, which runs from Dalston Junction, through Whitechapel and Wapping, and then south to New Cross and West Croydon, is one of twelve London building projects picked by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) for their annual ceremony.
It was praised for its “triumph of collaborative working” and for completing ahead of schedule.
Costing �700million and constructed through 10km of built-up urban space, the line was opened in April last year.
It used extended existing Victorian tunnels to integrate the track into the rest of the Overground network.
The ICE London Civil Engineering Awards – widely recognised as the leading industry accolade – will be held on March 4.
Previous winners of the gong include the London 2012 Olympic Park and Wembley Stadium and the Thames Barrier refurbishment.
