East London’s Army Reservists from 7th Battalion Rifles in firing line during weekend manoeuvres

Members of G Company 7th Battalion Rifles, based at the Army Reserve Centre in Portway, West Ham, were involved in the weekend firing held at Army ranges at Lydd, on the Romney Marshes in Kent.

They spent two days competing as teams and as individual ‘fighting machines’ in a series of matches.

These involved on the first day a ‘fleeting encounter’ test with moving targets, a ‘defence match’ team event using pop-up targets and the ‘advanced contact shoot’ with a 500-yard dash and shooting from kneeling and standing positions.

Event on the second day were an ‘urban contact’ match where they were moving and firing in enclosed buildings, a ‘defence match’ team knock out using a Sangar defence firing position as used in Afghanistan and Iraq and precision firing at different heights.
