Cinderella has brought the Christmas panto season to Mile End amid the eternal battle with her Ugly Stepsisters.

She arrived at Southern Grove community centre in a converted pumpkin turned into a golden coach and pulled by a team of house mice moonlighting as carriage horses, so we’re told.

But the questionable travel details didn’t matter to children getting down to what really mattered—the fairy godmother rescuing the impoverished kitchen scullery maid, giving her rags a makeover, transporting her to the royal ball in the mobility pumpkin and getting her hitched to Prince Charming.

The panto was staged by volunteers from East End Homes housing organisation.

“Our panto is always popular with children,” its community manager Paul Wilson said. “It’s good old festive fun in the heart of the community by volunteers making it a really great Christmas.”

The panto had all the traditional songs and the young audience taking part, with wishes made true by the fairy godmother.
