An outdoor market designed to support local traders and encourage people to live a green lifestyle was launched yesterday at a Whitechapel farm.
The Eco-Chic arts, craft and food market, which will run every Sunday until the end of August, began at Spitalfields City Farm in Buxton Street last weekend.
Up to 25 stalls were selling artisan products such as cheese, Moroccan food, herbal tees produced at the farm itself, designer jewellery, fashion items, and recycled furniture, including foot rests called, Eco Puffs, made from gigantic tyres.
A vinyl stall also added to the atmosphere with a DJ playing 50s retro and folk music.
Eco Chic events organiser Rosanna Leal said: “We want to put the farm on the cultural map. The idea of the market is to help entrepreneurs and encourage locals to recycle and live a green life, while raising awareness of some the green projects we have at the farm.”
The farm is also gearing up for a “big” summer event, she said, with local musicians, writers and performers.
