Ex-banker Ed Wethered funds a very different lifestyle these days since crashing out of the financial world in 2009.

He has been on a practice run along The Mall, ready for his 1,000km trek that began this week from east London’s Victoria Park in a series of 27 marathons over 26 days.

Ed’s ambitious route—in sections for anyone to join him in at any stage—takes in the head offices of 12 charities.

The former Canary Wharf hedge funds manager is raising funds, this time, for the small charities he says normally fall “under the radar” for public attention and donations.

He visited some of the small organisations in London this week before heading off, including Switchback ex-offenders charity in Whitechapel.

The fit 33-year-old eligible bachelor’s 1000km route heads to Cornwall to visit The Wave Project and StoryBook Dads, up to Bristol for Chiva, onto Birmingham for Sport 4 Life, then down the Grand Union Canal towpath and along the Regent’s Canal back to Victoria Park on September 24 for his last marathon and a big party.

That’s 27 marathons in 26 days for Raise Your Hands “feel good community” organisation that he now manages as its chief executive.

The organisation supports small charities working with children by involving them in philanthropy with pop-up restaurants, bingo tournaments and parties, getting youngsters involved in ways that suit them to support charities that need help the most while having a good time.

The September 24 grand finale in Vicky Park includes a marathon, half-marathon and 10k run for anyone to join in, finishing with a barbecue and craft beer party at the People’s Park Tavern.
