Children from St Elizabeth’s Primary School in Bethnal Green put on their walking boots and raised almost £600 for Battersea Dogs Home this morning.
A class of year four pupils voted to raise awareness of animal cruelty after holding a ballot to choose an issue in society which made them especially angry.
The kids took a trek around Victoria Park, wielding signs they had made to promote understanding of their chosen subject matter.
Teacher Laura Clarke said the children were impressed with how much money they had managed to raise. They will visit Battersea Dogs Home next week to present it with the money, and will also dress up as their favourite animals for a day as part of the project.
