BETHNAL Green and Bow MP Rushanara Ali says plans to raise student fees will mean fewer East Enders will get a university education.
Ms Ali said she was ‘very concerned’ about the Government’s plans to raise the tuition fees to 9,000 a year and said that poorer families in the East End would not be able to afford to send their children to university
She said: “These proposals are going back a step and making education class based. So many families are struggling to get their children to university and they’re taking away support.”
Today around 50,000 students and lecturers travelled to London for a march and rally in Westminster against the Government’s plans to raise the cap on fees from 3,290-a-year to 9,000.
But protests turned violent when some demonstrators broke windows at Conservative Party headquarters Millbank Tower and hurled missiles at police.
