Applications for young volunteers to assist athletes and organisers in next year’s Olympic Games have opened today.

Organiser LOCOG wants 2,000 16 to 18-year-olds from across the UK to apply for Young Games Maker roles.

Around 250 teams of young people, who must be 16 or over by July 1 next year and under 18 on January 1 next year, will join adult volunteers.

Roles such as field of play assistants, carrying athletes’ kit to and from the field in the Olympic and Paralympic athletics competition, and technology print distribution team members, ensuring athlete competition results are circulated, are up for grabs.

Team leaders from youth or sports clubs, community and volunteering groups, along with schools and colleges who are part of the Get Set Network are invited to apply until midnight on October 31.
