Kids in London’s East End have been learning how to avoid heart disease later in life by living healthier lifestyles.
Pupils at Shadwell’s Bigland Green Primary have been taking part in Heart Research UK’s programme of workshops, learning about how the heart functions.
They experimented taking their own heart rates while resting and while working, learning how and why heartbeats fluctuate.
The workshops at the Queen Mary Centre of the Cell at Whitechapel’s Blizard Institute included an interactive ‘pod’ suspended above the biomedical labs, teaching them how lifestyle choices will affect their health when they’re older including the risk of Coronary Disease caused by smoking and poor diet.
