Pupils have “done better” at a school in London’s East End which has just been rated ‘good and improving’ under the tough new Ofsted inspections, it has been revealed today.
The exam results and behaviour at Bow Boys’ Secondary were praised by a government inspection which also acknowledged the school’s quality of teaching, leadership and management.
Headteacher Cath Smith said: “We look forward to striving towards becoming outstanding—the Ofsted rating is testament to our students, staff, governors and parents.”
Inspectors last month found the youngsters were engaged in their work, while being “challenged to do better”.
They acknowledged the school’s exam success, with its GCSE results improving over the last three years, notably in English and Maths. Best ever results were last summer, when Year-11 got 91 per cent pass in five subjects or more at A* to C grades, or 51 per cent including English and Maths.
Bow Boys, which relocates in June next year from Fairfield Road to its new state-of-the-art building near Bow Lock, on the banks of the Lea River, was named in the Ofsted report as “a successful school as a result of good teaching”.
