Budding BMX riders are pedalling their way to success on the track through a new project using facilities in the Olympic Park.

The Bow Boys school BMX Club is providing kids in the East End with the equipment, facilities and professional coaching in a bid to keep them away from gangs and train them up for local and national competitions.

Weekly sessions for 17 young people between 11 and 14 are being held on Thursday evenings. They are being put on by cycling charity Sustrans – which is now hoping to raise £200,000 to roll out similar projects across all the Olympic boroughs.

Bow Boys PE Teacher Dan Pitt said; “We hope that the BMX Club will help to address the gang culture in Tower Hamlets while providing students with a great sense of achievement.”
