TV’s Professor Brian Cox and Lord Andrew Mawson took a walk around on the first day on Tuesday of the Science summer school being held in east London at St Paul’s Way Trust secondary.
The science school, now in its sixth year, caters for 250 eager students from all over the UK who are passionate about science, giving them a chance to interact with some of Britain’s leading scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs.
Prof Cox, famous for his popular TV programmes on science and the universe, appears regularly at the science school at the Bow Common campus as its patron.
Students got a preview of ‘pathfinder’ science projects that Lord Mawson, director of the London Legacy Development Corporation, is planning to run in 10 communities in the north of England, based on his experience of the Science summer school at St Paul’s Way.
Lord Mawson also leads the St Paul’s Way ‘transformation’ project, modernising the neighbourhood with new homes, schools, a health centre and mosque which is being overseen by Poplar Harca Housing organisation.
