Chinese celebrities stopped off in the East End as part of a whistlestop tour to film why London is the best place on the planet for students.

They looked in at the University of London’s Queen Mary Centre of the Cell complex, the ground-breaking centre Whitechapel for interactive science education and outreach projects, as part of a programme for China’s top-of-the-ratings TV show Happy Camp which attracts 100 million viewers.

The tour was aimed at giving viewers an idea of why London is being promoted during 2012 as the best place to study, work, live and invest. It was organised by the London Universities International Partnership of 15 universities, including Queen Mary’s, to promote London as a destination for overseas students.

The celebrities included Olympic gold medal diver Li Na, TV hosts Jiong He and Li Weijia, TV producer Mei Long and Beijing’s leading higher education expert Xu Xiaoping.
