Applications have opened for free training in film and TV production for people in east London who are unemployed or on low pay.
The Zoom: Futures in Creative Media courses are being run at Bethnal Green’s Four Corners studios in Roman Road, funded by Tower Hamlets Council, from November to December and from January to February.
The scheme for anyone over 18 is aimed at women, ethnic minorities and the disabled who are said to be “under-represented” in the film industry.
“Support from the council means we can give free training to disadvantaged people,” Four Corners’ director Carla Mitchell said. “This will give opportunities to develop a career in film and TV.”
Up to 16 trainees can be taken on for six weeks of intensive training in film and TV production, including complete beginners. Travel and childcare costs are included, with opportunities for paid work placements.
Previous trainees have had work placements with Walt Disney, FutureNow Digital, Greatcoat Films and Hollywood actor Idris Elba’s Yardie production company.
One trainee, Mohd Rahman, said: “This course really has changed my life. I can’t thank Four Corners enough.”
The online closing date is Tuesday, October 10. Those interested can also attend an open afternoon at Four Corners on Tuesday October 3.
