A group of East End schoolchildren are trying their hand at being reporters in their own news programme for the BBC.
Around 30 Year 9 pupils from Sir John Cass’ Foundation and Red Coat School in Stepney Way have been carrying out interviews and reports for their big broadcast on Thursday (March 24).
Their stories will include a special report on potholes in Tower Hamlets and schools in Namibia.
The project involves 800 schools across the country and has the support of BBC1 news anchor and former teacher Huw Edwards.
He said: “I’m involved because I want to give young people the chance to make the news themselves and I want to share the principles of good journalism.”
To coincide with the Census, almost 25,000 pupils have taken part in the School Report survey this year and answered questions ranging from the Royal Family to how they travel to school.
