A group of teachers who set up a project to introduce more business studies in schools has signed a deal with a high street bank for an enterprise award scheme.

The Enabling Enterprise programme originally established in east London three years ago to develop pupils’ inventive business skills in the classroom has signed a 15,000 sponsorship deal with Santander.

The programme is now being expanded to schools across London for youngsters aged seven to 19.

Pupils come up with business ideas which are followed up by visits to commerce and industry where they are given mentoring help.

These include youngsters from Whitechapel’s Canon Barnett Primary who designed their own environmentally-friendly toys from recycled materials such as scrap cardboard, newspaper and wood and were taken on a visit to Societe Generale French investment bank at Tower Hill last week.
