Former education minister Estelle Morris has backed calls for more work to be done to tackle Tower Hamlets’ schools crisis.

The minister joined the borough’s Labour Mayoral candidate John Biggs and former Langdon Park School headteacher Chris Dunne to discuss the strain on school places. “Labour contributed towards the great improvements in education in Tower Hamlets over the last 10 to 15 years, but John’s also coming forward and saying what still needs to be done,” she said.

“I think that confidence in what Labour has achieved, a strong vision for the future and the determination to do something about it is what being a Mayor all about.”

Despite another year of record GCSE results, Mr Biggs insisted more improvements can be made, particularly at A-Level.

“If elected Mayor next year I will support our schools, parents and young people as we’ve done up to GCSE level so young people in Tower Hamlets can achieve even greater things,” he added.
