The new East London Harmony youth choir is giving free singing workshops to interested teenagers on Sunday week.

Conductors Hannah Brine and Patrick Barrett are teaching youngsters aged 14 to 19 at Hub 67 in Hackney Wick a mix of soul, pop and gospel—and no previous experience is needed.

They began running workshops in October after Tower Hamlets Council approached them to offer funding to set up a fully-fledged contemporary youth choir.

“We’re looking for young people who are passionate or curious about singing,” Hannah explained.

“Maybe they can sing already or maybe they’ve always wanted to try—they could be the next Beyonce or Frank Ocean.”

Hannah, who also runs Victoria Park Singers and recently performed with Gary Barlow on TV’s Strictly Come Dancing, teaches contemporary songs in two and three part harmony and believes “everyone can sing and make a beautiful sound”.

Conductor Patrick, who has worked with the National Youth Choir and National Children’s Choir, is keen to “work with the talented young people of East London” to broaden their horizons educationally and musically.

Youngsters can register by email for the March 19 workshop at eastlondonyouthchoir@gmail.com.
