A five-year-old child in London’s deprived East End has scored the winning design in a competition for a T-shirt for a team of rugby-paying lawyers who are the official legal advisors to the 2015 World Cup.

Canary Wharf law firm Clifford Chance’s managing partner David Bickerton looked in at Whitechapel’s Shapla Primary school on Monday to hand out T-shirt prizes with the winning design.

“The children showed impressive artistic talent,” he said. “Judging the designs was a tough job—even for lawyers!”

Clifford Chance has a full year ahead as official law firm for Rugby World Cup 2015, with a programme of events that will include the children at Shapla Primary.

The entry that took the ‘trophy’ was by a little girl called Sameeha, in Year-1, whose ‘try’ was ‘converted’ to win on points.

Her classmates were all given T-shirts with her design as a trophy, which are also being worn by the firm’s own rugby team during the World Cup season.

Shapla’s Head teacher Tim Barnes said: “Designing a theme for the Rugby shirt gave us a chance to raise the children’s awareness of the sport. We should be very pleased if the England team is as successful in the World Cup as Sameeha’s design.”
