The first government cabinet meeting this year was held at the Olympic Park today to mark 200 days before the 2012 Games start.

The PM’s most senior ministers swapped Downing Street for the park’s handball arena.

David Cameron also met British 2012 diving hopefuls in the Aquatics Centre during today’s visit.

Mr Cameron said: “As we kick off 2012, the year of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee, this is the perfect time for the Cabinet to come together and ensure we are doing absolutely everything we can to make the most of this unique opportunity to showcase all the great things the UK has to offer to the rest of the world.”

The visit came as the Olympic Delivery Authority, responsible for building the venues handed the park over to Locog, which will stage the Games.

Locog chair, Seb Coe, said: “The handover of the Olympic Park sounds the starting pistol in the race to get the site and venues ready to host the two biggest sporting events on the planet. In just 200 days time, 200 countries will send 15,000 athletes and 20,000 accredited media to London to create history.”
