A bid for more online votes is under way at Half Moon Young People’s Theatre to help get £5,000 for its First Act programme for the very young in London’s East End.

The theatre company in Limehouse has applied for a grant from Aviva Community Fund to run dance and drama sessions for pre-school tots at Tower Hamlets children’s centres and nurseries.

Projects with the most public votes by May 30 go forward to a judging panel that chooses which charities get the cash.

“Every vote counts,” Half Moon’s director Chris Elwell said. “We really need people to log on to Aviva’s voting page and go for ‘Half Moon’ to raise our chances of funding.”

The Half Moon is in the £5,000 funding level and in the Supporting the Younger Generation category, where 24 awards are being made in total.

Its early years programmes give the very young a boost for a better start to formal education, with skills to listen, take turns, share, communicate and grow in confidence.

Online voting closes Saturday week, May 30, for Half Moon’s Page at Aviva community fund. Half Moon had 1,500 online votes by last Friday—but needs more to stand a chance.
