Easter came early on the Isle of Dogs when children staged their own special parade with bonnets they made themselves.

The Easter Parade is one of the highlights of the children’s year at Millwall’s Arnham Wharf Preimary.

All the youngsters work together to create a spectacularly grand bonnet to represent their class in a parade held in the hall in front of their mums and dads.

The children also make their own Easter hats at home to wear for the special occasion.

“Spring was definitely in the air at Arnhem Wharf,” Assistant Head Grace Shortland said. “Lots of children created wonderful hats at home, which were beautifully decorated with bunnies, chicks and other Spring motifs.”

The children came up with original designs for their bonnets, using everyday materials found at home such as cereal boxes, cardboard and even real egg-shells.

The imaginative youngsters created their own prehistoric dinosaur monsters earlier this year which went on show at Canary Wharf’s community Window gallery at Canada Place Shopping Mall nearby, inspired by a school visit to the Natural History Museum.

But there were no monsters on the Easter bonnets — just bunnies and chicks.
