CENTRAL Foundation Girls’ School is celebrating this week after record-breaking GCSE results were announced on Tuesday.
Headteacher Anne Hudson said 53 per cent of girls who took their exams this summer walked away with at least five A*-C grades, including English and maths, up six percentage points from 47 per cent last year.
The overall A*-G pass rate for the College Terrace school in Bow was 90 per cent and 76 per cent of girls got five or more GCSEs at grade A*-C, compared to 70 per cent in 2009, and the percentage gaining 3 A or A* grades has gone up, too, from 23 per cent to 32 per cent.
Dr Hudson said; “It really goes to show that if you implement good teaching practices and stick to them the students achieve more.
“That’s what we’ve done and we’ve made a great improvement on last year so I’m really pleased; it’s all about raising achievement.
“Our great success story is our drama department in which 97 per cent of our pupils got between an A* and a C.”
