A new ‘outdoor classroom’ canopy has appeared for the start of the new term at Mile End’s John Scurr Primary.
Headteacher Maria Lewington wanted an outdoor covered area where pupils could play and learn in the open air all-year round, but crucial that none of the playground area was lost.
The work was carried out by Connekt UK contractors with minimum disruption and no safety risks to pupils or staff. The cantilevered 10ft-wide canopy was installed in a day and not having to use supporting posts, which would have taken up valuable playground space.
The school in Cephas Street now has another canopy to add to its existing Canopies UK installations where pupils can play and learn all-year round. The new shelter system is black to blend in seamlessly with the surrounding buildings.
