Children on the Isle of Dogs celebrated World Sports Week today (Weds) in the run up to next month’s Olympics by inviting MP Jim Fitzpatrick to their school assembly.

The MP dropped in at St Edmund’s RC primary in Millwall and spoke about his role in Parliament and the role children have in shaping east London’s future—then joined in a game of volleyball with a class of nine-year-olds in the playground.

Activities coordinator Helen Wright told the Advertiser: “The children have been immersed in activities all week like creating flags of the nations they’re supporting in the 2012 Olympics and getting involved in food, culture, language and traditions from around the world.”

The sports week will end with a closing ceremony on Friday when the children reiterate the Olympic Values of respect, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality.
