Kids sipped tea with a four metre high orange and black striped tiger, recreating a scene from a famous children’s book at Bethnal Green’s Museum of Childhood last week.

Children from Bethnal Green’s Globe Primary School took tea with the giant cat last Thursday to celebrate the opening of an exhibition by author and illustrator Judith Kerr who wrote the Tiger Who Came to Tea.

The famous picture book began as a bedtime story for Ms Kerr’s own children but soon became a classic and by the time it celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2008, it had been translated into 11 languages and sold more than five million copies.

The retrospective of Ms Kerr’s long career exhibition at the Cambridge Heath Road museum shows original artwork, notes and sketches.

The exhibition is on until September 4.
