LLOYD’s the world-famous insurance market is using poetic license to help kids in London’s East End enjoy experimenting with language and explore subjects in new ways.

The prestigious insurance brokerage exchange in the financial City district has been working with the Poet in the City’ charity to run poetry workshops in three schools in neighbouring Tower Hamlets where 150 children attended the day-long sessions.

The children worked with professional poets in the workshops run at Canon Barnett Primary in Whitechapel and Columbia Primary in Bethnal Green, as well as Whitechapel’s Mulberry Girls’ Secondary.

The aim was to develop their own ideas around the theme of conflict and instability’ which Lloyd’s has been researching as part of a risk’ project.

Poet in the City has been building bridges between the worlds of business and education since it was set up as a project by the Poetry Society in 1998. It has since introduced thousands of children to the pleasures of reading and writing poetry.
