The Lord Mayor of the City of London has handed over a tapestry celebrating Spitalfields’ history to Tower Hamlets schoolchildren.
The pupils from the Business and Enterprise College at Swanlea School visited Mansion House yesterday to meet Alderman Michael Bear.
The specially created tapestry depicts important eras from Spitalfields’ rich and vibrant past, and features the Lord Mayors Show.
The original ideas for the artwork came from a GCSE art class at the school in Brady Street, Whitechapel, and the tapestry is therefore returning to the place it was conceived.
