The winner of one of the most prestigious science writing awards will be chosen in part by students from Mulberry School for Girls.

Students of the school in Shadwell joined up with an expert panel of scientists to determine who should take home this year’s Royal Society Young Person’s Book Prize in November.

They were also joined by other students from across the country who have been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to have their say. They were given the daunting task of picking a winner from a shortlist of six different books.

Chairing the panel for Mulberry was Samilah Naira, of year 9. She said: “It was brilliant being involved in picking a book to win this year’s prize, although we all found it very difficult as the books were so different.

“Being on a judging panel was a really great way to learn about science whilst having fun at the same time.”
