Music school set to open in Tower Hamlets

PUBLISHED: 18:00 04 June 2013

Future musical icons could be trained in Tower Hamlets after a new music school for the borough was given the green light.

Due to open in 2014, plans for the school were by education secretary Michael Gove last week.

It will give 16-19-year-olds the chance to follow in the footsteps of inspirational music school graduates such as Adele and the late Amy Winehouse.

New Schools Network director Natalie Evans said: “The free schools movement has accelerated at an unprecedented pace, spurred on by increasing support from teachers particularly in disadvantaged areas where the need for good schools is even more pressing.”
