A new bell is set to peal out in the Victorian bell tower of a Whitechapel primary school – just down the road from where it was forged at the famous Whitechapel Foundry.

Harry Gosling Primary School, in Fairclough Street, will mark the inauguration of the new bell on Valentine’s Day next Thursday.

Each pupil has been invited to make a wish for their future on the bell, and an inscription on the bell will read: “Every time our bell rings, we step closer to our dreams.”

The youngsters have all visited the foundry to learn about how their bell was made , and about some of its famous predecessors, such as Big Ben and the Olympic Bell.
