A police task force targeted at street yobs in London’s East End has arrested 281 suspects and carried out more than 2,600 ‘stop and search’ operations in its first nine months, according to figures out this week.

It has also obtained 244 sanctioned detections—bringing suspects to justice for crimes committed.

The task force was set up last July in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council with 21 officers patrolling the streets. Another 17 are being added after April 1, funded by the Town Hall.

Anti-social behaviour incidents are claimed to be 23 per cent down in the last nine months, compared to the same period the previous year.
