Primary school in Poplar opens edible food playground

A primary school in Poplar celebrated the official launch of their edible food playground which was opened by the mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs.
Pupils at Manorfield Primary School in Wyvis Street, unveiled their eye-catching orange honeycomb trellised fruit and vegetable garden, abundant with seasonal school-grown herbs, salads and vegetables; in addition to a multifunction outdoor classroom area and impressive nature garden, rich in diverse urban wildlife.
The new interactive outdoor space is set to transformed the way pupils learn about food origins and provide an opportunity to explore healthy eating through seasonal planting and harvesting lessons throughout the year.
The school’s playground was inspired by an initiative by national charity Trees for Cities.
CEO David Elliott said: “We are encouraging more schools to follow Manorfield’s great efforts.”
