The children really got into the spirit of World Book Day in London’s Docklands dressed as their favourite book characters.
One girl at Cyril Jackson Primary School in Limehouse even had a cut-out parrot on her shoulder as Treasure Island.
The school celebrates Book Day in style every year with an eventful week-long activity schedule.
Children in Years 2 and 3 visited Canary Wharf Waterstone’s bookshop to spend book vouchers and buy extra books for their class libraries.
Years 5 & 6 went to the largest bookshop in Europe, the Piccadilly branch of Waterstone’s, while Year 1 trotted off to Canary Wharf’s Idea Store for a story session and to learn all about joining the library.

“Our children love books and reading,” headteacher Gillian Kemp said. “We always make World Book Day a time where the children can be inspired to read more and share with friends and family.”
The school staged a ‘breakfast read’ on World Book Day itself, when mums and dads came in to read a book or newspaper with their children while tucking into breakfast. Nursery and reception parents arrived in the afternoon to read with their children.
