Business students are being trained on a new ‘virtual trading floor’ for dealing in the financial markets which has gone online in east London.

Post graduates of the School of Economics & Finance at London University’s Queen Mary college at Mile End are using advanced electronic trading platforms with the same technology as City traders such as Bloomberg, Reuters, and leading stockbrokers in the financial markets.

But they are also getting their hands on real cash with a postgraduate investment club that runs a fund that is making profit, currently managing 20,000 in investments. All profits accumulated by the end of the year are being reinvested or used to pay for club events.

The virtual trading floor is proving a huge draw for postgraduate students wanting to get practical experience in the world of financial markets, with applications 17 per cent higher this year than 2011.
