The pressure is on to be crowned ‘dental king’ in a national competition with student Jed Lee winning the first heat at the Queen Mary University’s dentistry school at Whitechapel.
The 24-year-old final year student is through to the 2017 Dental Skills finals run by the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.
He is now gritting his teeth preparing for the grand final in March, up against 300 others snapping from all over the British Isles.
“Performing under strict time limit put my skills to the test,” he said. “But it’s helped build my confidence in dental clinical skills.”
He now represents Queen Mary’s at the grand final in Edinburgh where he has to perform clinical procedures to determine who gets the ‘dental crown’ of the year.
The Royal College was first incorporated as the Barber Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1505 and is one of the world’s oldest surgical corporations with 23,000 professionals in 100 countries.
