School in Stepney gets into Dickensian spirit for World Book Day

Staff at a school in Tower Hamlets dressed up as Charles Dickens characters for World Book Day in a bid to get pupils reading.

Sir John Cass’s Foundation and Red Coat C of E Secondary School was also celebrating the bicentenary of the famous author and to raise funds for Book Aid International.

The school in Stepney Way was one of thousands across the UK and Ireland to mark the occasion. World Book Day aims to help children explore the pleasure of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own and encouraging them to join a library. The school’s children received a 1 book token, which can be exchanged for one of eight books specially published World Book Day.

The school was also presented with books by the author of the popular Roman Mysteries, Caroline Lawrence, which are to be shared with a partner school in the Czech Republic.
