The 15-year-old, who has been told his role will be as a kit carrier at the Olympic Stadium, said: “It’s a once in a life-time opportunity. Unlike other people I won’t only be watching the Games on TV, I’ll actually be there meeting the athletes. I hope to meet the Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world.”

Along with fellow year 11 student Azizur Rahman, he has also been selected as an Olympic Ambassador. They were among 15 pupils in their year competing for the roles.

Last week the pair had their first training session at Toynbee Hall in Whitechapel, where they were told they will be manning a visitors pod at Spitalfields Market, during the Games.

Azizur, 15, admitted to being “a bit” disappointed not be stationed at the Olympic Park, but said he was still “excited.”

The pod, one of a series of pods to be stationed around capital, will offer access to GPS and TfL maps. Their next training session in customer service and health and safety will be given by John Lewis.’ For their third and final session they will visit their pod location.
