Football stars of the future will have the chance to hone their skills at summer camps across Tower Hamlets during the school holidays.

The camps will be run by the council’s sports development team in conjunction with football clubs, and will aim to tap into the borough’s rich tradition of producing and nurturing outstanding footballing talent.

Leading premier league players including Ashley Cole, Ledley King and Scott Parker all learned their trade in Tower Hamlets, and Mayor Lutfur Rahman hopes this latest project will produce players of a similar pedigree.

He said: “Tower Hamlets has a rich footballing heritage and has long been a hotbed of sporting talent. The council is doing all it can to ensure young people have access to a wide range of sporting activity during the summer holidays and throughout the year.”

The camps are open to children between the ages of 16 and 18, from July 23 to September 14.
