This is Tower Bridge As you’ve never seen it before—topped with fish’n’chips and supported by two lashings of tomato ketchup!
That’s according to eight-year-old Toby Ayres who has won a ‘design a bridge’ contest for children aged six to 14, as part of the iconic landmark’s 120th anniversary celebrations.
His ‘Great British Fish and Chips’ version really did wet the appetite of judges who were hungry for new ideas about the most famous bridge in the world.
Toby took the biscuit, beating competitors by using the classic neo-Gothic design as a starting point and reinterpreted it as a ‘homage’ to the all-time British classic fish and chips—his favourite meal.
Toby’s ambition is to be an architect, so get ready for some appetising buildings in future—perhaps a hot-dog hotel, bake bean bullevard, sardine station, pizza public library or toasted town hall.

Judges included Isabel Wolfe Barry, great-great-granddaughter of Victorian civil engineer Sir John Wolfe Barry who designed the original Tower Bridge opened in 1894.
Toby’s drawing has been transformed into a 3D model which has gone on public display in the Tower Bridge Exhibition until August 31.
