A group of air cadets saw their Duke of Edinburgh expedition get off to a flying start thanks to a donation of equipment in recognition of their role in last summer’s Olympics.

Tower Hamlets Air Cadets were given a batch new equipment after they provided space and sleeping gear in case extra forces were drafted in to assist at the Games.

The equipment, donated by Canary Wharf Group, was put to immediate use last weekend when 15 cadets took sleeping bags which had been donated on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition.

The squadron said its membership was increasing, and is appealing for more adult volunteers to join the effort.
