These kids are jumping for joy because they’ve got the cash for their ‘football mad’ trip to Jersey—thanks to building contractors working an East End housing estate.

The young members of Tower Hamlets District Under-12s were presented with a 2,000 cheque to complete their fundraising when Durkan Construction boss Robert Clark (left) and his community liaison man Paul McRea turned up at their weekly practice at Poplar’s Langdon Park school.

The contractors came to the team’s rescue after reading in the Advertiser that the trip was in jeopardy because parents had only managed to raise 6,000 before the deadline.

Now club trainer-manager Andrew Grant can take them off to Jersey in April to represent the East End against teams from all over Britain.

The company and its sub-contractors involved in refurbishing Stepney’s Clichy Estate each chipped in 500 so the kids could go.
