THE next generation of iron chefs were cooking up a storm at Tower Hamlets College last week as part of an international competition.

Contestants from across the country chopped, fried and stirred four of their unique dishes against the clock at the semi-finals of Tommy Miah’s International Chef of the Year Competition.

Renowned chef Tommy Miah set up the competition nine years ago in the hope of promoting innovation and quality in Asian cooking.

After sampling the mouth-watering creations, the 15 judges took an agonising 45minutes to decide on the winner, finally naming Muhammad Ali, currently a chef at the Karma restaurant in Oxford.

Mr Ali will now head to Dhaka to compete against chefs from across the world in the International Chef of the Year final.

College Principal, Michael Farley, said: “We are delighted to be able to host this fantastic event. Catering and Hospitality is a growth area for the College and after today’s successful event we are hoping to expand our future relationship with Mr Tommy Miah.”
