Youngsters from London’s East End are through to the finals of a national bank’s money challenge for budding entrepreneurs, representing England in the UK finals.
A team from Cardboard Citizen’s ‘Act Now’ project in Whitechapel has made it to Lloyd’s ‘Money for Life’ grand finals being staged on Thursday evening at the London Film Museum on the Southbank.
The national competition now in its second year encourages youngsters aged 16 to 24 to run projects which improve their money skills for themselves, their families and their communities.
The Whitechapel team has already been crowned national champs for England and now face the winners from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland—from communal camping cooperatives to ‘forum theatre’ addressing issues of youth homelessness and financial exclusion.
The four grand final rivals make their presentation to an audience of 150 and are being judged by a panel of influential financial and business leaders. The winning team gets £2,500 for charity, while each member gets £100 shopping vouchers.
