The final school commissioned in Tower Hamlets under the Building Schools for the Future programme will be completed next May after work began on the site in Bow.
Providing educational facilities for 1,600 pupils, Bow School will be built on a 12,800 square metre site.
The school has been designed to be environmentally friendly, and will cut CO2 emissions by as much as 60 per cent, with environmental assessors BREEAM awarding the school a rating of ‘excellent.’
The school will feature roof-top sports facilities and a sports hall, as well as new classrooms and an assembly hall.
Tower Hamlets’ Building Schools for the Future programme has been undertaken in four stages, and was one of only a handful of councils to survive education secretary Michael Gove’s decision to scrap the scheme in 2010.
