Workshops with Half Moon Theatre in Limehouse prepares pupils for secondary school

A youth theatre brought together more than 150 children to create a play aimed at preparing them for the start of secondary school.

New Yea-seven pupils at Oaklands and Bishop Challoner took part in

Transitions Summer School offered through Half Moon Youth Theatre in Limehouse.

The workshops aim to equip them with creative and team-working skills, and build their confidence while giving them a chance to engage with other children and facilities in their new school before term starts.

Over five days the students worked together to create a drama-based performance taking on various roles within the theatre-making process. They explored dance and drama, spoken word and scriptwriting, music making and singing.

They also had the chance to take part in visual arts sessions to create scenic elements and props for a performance for family and friends.

Creative Learning Producer at Half Moon, Beccy Allen, said: Young people making the transition from primary to secondary school can find it quite daunting.

“These Summer Schools give them the opportunity to be creative, make friends and gain confidence as they familiarise themselves with their new school before starting in September. Above all, they have loads of fun along the way!”
