A group of young people carted themselves out in overalls and took to an estate to give it a make-over.

Dedicating their half-term to the mission, the 14 to 21-year-olds painted play area equipment and weeded communal gardens in the Sidney estate in Stepney.

The initiative was thought up by the Tower Hamlets Homes Youth Panel who wanted to find a way to engage their peers and reduce anti-social behaviour as during group meetings they heard time and time again that young people were feeling disconnected with where they live.

The first “Bling my Hood” event attracted more than 25 youngsters and more are being planned for the future.
