VOTERS will be turning out this evening at polling stations across Tower Hamlets to cast their vote as MP candidates gear up for the election count.

More people than ever were expected to cast their votes throughout today at the borough's 119 polling stations for the parliamentary and local elections as well as for a mayoral referendum.

And they still have until 10pm tonight to mark their cross on the ballot paper.

But trouble kicked-off this morning as police were called to the polling station at Ben Jonson Primary School, Stepney, at just after 10am to investigate reports of 'intimidation' outside.

Paul Rhodes, from Stepney, told the Advertiser: "I went down to vote this morning and there were large gangs of Asian people outside the polling station.

"They were there on behalf of all candidates, shouting at people and telling them what number to vote for.

"I spoke to a lot of people down there and they said they were intimidated."

Once polling stations have closed, all the ballot papers will be taken to Mile End Leisure Centre where the count will start at around 10pm.

The names of the MPs who have won the Westminster hot seats for Bethnal Green and Bow and Poplar and Limehouse are expected to be announced around 3pm tomorrow morning.

The ballot papers for the local election and mayoral referendum will be taken back to the Town Hall tonight and brought back to Mile End Leisure Centre tomorrow for the count to kick-off at 10am.
